I don't consider myself an expert in MindManager - to me that implies that I know all there is to know about Mind Mapping. (I don't.) Rather, I think of myself as a perpetual student of tools and methodologies for productivity and knowledge management. I'm always ready to learn and to share what I've learned.
I plan to share how I use MindManager in my daily work and how I've integrated it with other software tools that I use. No sales pitch, just show-and-tell about some of the geek tools I use daily. I plan to cover a range of topics, including how I use MindManager and Lotus Notes and how I use MindManager teaching my children and coaching robotics teams. I plan to leave ample time for questions and answers.
This will be a fun opportunity, I look forward to it as much for the opportunity to share as to learn from your questions and comments. My goal is to make this presentation as informative as possible, so I invite you to submit the questions that you would like me to answer or things you would like to see. I look forward to hearing from you.

Description: Consultant and eProductivity Specialist, Eric Mack, will give us a tour of his world and how he works and how he uses Mind Manager as a visual thinking and planning tool. He will discuss how he uses Mind Manager as a visual dashboard and planning tool for project and action management. He will also share how he uses Mind Manager on a daily basis as a support tool for getting things done with the GTD methodology and how he uses Mind Manager as a research support tool for Knowledge Management. Finally, he will show us how he uses MindManager to brainstorm and track projects and actions stored in Lotus Notes databases. In addition to using Mind Maps at work, Eric uses them when home-schooling his children and when coaching robotics teams. We've asked him to share a little bit about how he teaches the kids to use Mind Maps to organize their thinking and strategy when planning for a paper or a competition. At the conclusion of the webinar, Eric will be available to answer your questions.

I would be interested in hearing if or how your GTD techniques in Lotus Notes can be applied to a user in a corporation that doesn't give users access to do much customization or training beyond using corporate email and databases.

Eric,
I'd be interested to know two things:
1. Do you use any of the GTD-oriented MindManager plug-ins? I think they're Results Manager and GyroQ. Why or why not?
2. I know MindManager integrates nicely with several applications (including, apparently, a few different methods for integrating with MS Outlook). Is this a one or two-way integration, and do you rely on it (by "two-way" I mean a true synchronization, not just a import/export dump)?

My question is about using MindManager, in context of your usage, with various screen sizes. Do you consider the new 7" UMPC screens practical, or is a "regular sized" screen essential for mind mapping work without frustration?

I use MM on a 12" tabletPC and it is a little crowded for everything. I imagine the UMPC would be even worse. They have a trial, download and install. See if it works for you.

I'm NOT a Lotus Notes user, but use MM heavily as part of managing my daily tasks, notes, projects, etc. I'm looking for a more general picture of integrating MM with other KB tools and practices, rather than specifically Lotus Notes. In fact, I'd be more interested in learning your thoughts on integrating MM with Microsoft OneNote.

To Bob O'Malley'a question: I've been using Gyro's ResultsManager for GTD-style task management for about 8 months now, and I still use it almost daily. That's a STRONG indication that I like it and haven't found anything better. However, I'm not a total convert to the GTD religion, so maybe I'm not the best example. I just find ResultsManager helps me stay on top of the myriad of tasks in my world.

Do you know of any best practices guides for structuring complex maps? I assume there aren't any, so if you could comment on guidelines from your own experience, I would appreciate it. For example, when do you add information to the map as a new node as opposed to putting it into the node's notes?

I have discovered MindManager to be a killer app for my 26" monitor. I am considering switching to a tablet computer, but won't that be a step down to be forced to squeeze my work into a 12" screen?
In other words, does the benefit of using a pen on the screen outway the loss of a huge amount of screen real estate assuming portability is not a factor?

Doug, if portability is not an issue, get the largest tablet you can. It's for that reason that I keep my Tecra M4 around. it's big, but I like the screen size. The pen is a useful interface for mobile mapping, especially in meetings. otherwise, the keyboard is probably more productive. YMMV Check my blog topics on Tablet PC and mapping for other ideas.

In 2007, you referenced an article by Michael Linenberger as a good source of learning to utilize both Mindmanager and Outlook. I am a complete newbie to both MM and Outlook and therefore interested in your recommendation. However, I was unable to find on MM site. Are you able to provide a link?
