I used to have the m200 (got lost on a train)
to change orientation with the physical button, you have to tilt and push the button.
Unfortunately, the "coating" is either an anti-glare or a texture coating to provide resistance for writing. Not sure, and I've had some fellow tosh m200 users complaining.
I'd be interested to know if there is a bios level security password that protects the laptop from being used at all if it ends up in the wrong hands.

Yes, but make sure to calibrate the accelerometer first. Nothing more embarrasing than showing off the tablet by pressing the orientation button and having your screen appear upside down. (Control Panel -> Tablet & Pen Settings -> Display)

I'm on the fence at present:
Some issues:
- Screen can be difficult to read in my office
- Palm rests (in laptop mode) are so hot that I need a heat shield to type
- Portfolio case has issues
- DVD keep popping out when using in tablet mode on my lap.
Still, the unit is impressive. I'm going to work with it and see what happens.

I'm glad you're not sugar-coating things eric, it's really helpful to know if the tecra is indeed the one to get, or if I should wait to get one with the wide-angle screen.
I really need the graphics capabilities of this machine, but so far it seems you're not in "awe" of it.

Jason, there's much to like. There's also serveral aspects of this unit that do not appear to be well thought-out. I have a vested interest in making this work: a) I have clients who relay on my to recommend technology to them, and b) I just paid $5K for this Tablet -- it was not an eval.
I plan to work on it over the next few days so that I can formulate a more thorough opinion, not that I have many,.

Good review on a screen protector that will fit the Tecra Tab: { Link } Cost is: $8.35. Can't speak to how well they work as I use the M205 with a 'naked' screen for clarity and brightness.

Is it really that much heavier? Would it be annoying to use on a plane?

It's heavy, however, I have nothing to compare it to. I knew that, with the features I wanted, this would be a heavy unit. That said, I Like the big screen.

I'd love to know the security features once you've played with it a bit more... there were advance press "reviews" that (I think) mis-interpreted the tpm module to be a fingerprint reader.
Great review so far. Ditto on thanking you for not sugar-coating it. And great to see your family involved (I don't know why, it's just a great thing to see it in this day and age)

Finally got my tablet. Also got a portfolio case. Wondring your thoughts...
I am kind of on the fence still with mine. Not sure if the Life Book from Fujitsu (T4010) is a better choice for viewing. Sure love the res on the Tecra as well as the screen size.
Are you finding the fan an issue or the DVD drive from a sound point of view?
I also might think there is a minor pen sensitivity compared to the R15 and M200 I tried but later returned. Might be too soon to tell as I put a Strong Screen Protector on and it may be the cause.
Funny, after all the wait I am not jumping for joy and finding I still like my Persario 2700. As a high school teacher I will be using it starting Monday in my classes so I will gain a better feel then.

I have never used a tablet before but am very keen to buy one. I have an issue with weight and on that count feel the Fujitsu 12 inch screen with the builtin CDRW/DVD drive may be better for me. I could go for the Tecra Toshiba but is it really better than the Fujitsu. I am a physician and move around a fair bit and also have to deal with movie clips like angiograms. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Apart from the graphic capability, R15 set to 1024MB, is it better to choose over the TECRA M4. I wouldnt mind shelling out another 500 for TECRA M4, iam looking forward for the graphic capability for my games..
